Ever heard of cortical re-organization? Just like how the visually deprived can often develop an acute sense of hearing or touch, with the brain recruiting the neural resources freed up from the former to assist the latter, I feel the past decade-and-a-half has brought about a similar albeit less graver change in my own mind…
Having been raised in a rather deceptive
environment replete with pathological liars and a somewhat tainted generational
history of dubious passings, only blasting into reality once I stepped out of
my so-called home, my brain was trained less for empty gabfests and more for a clinical
dissection of subtle undertones that came my way every so often, an ability
steadily refined over time… Now, I’m no mentalist, but an intuitive empath? Without
a doubt!
Growing up, I recall witnessing
hours of unwarranted wayside arguments with the police, not so much to avoid a pittance of a traffic fee, but just that being proven wrong was unthinkable,
sometimes even resorting to the illicit impersonation of ex-army men, brazenly demanding salutes to induce
a more measured response... I recall wonderful couples in a rough patch putting
their faith in those who only poisoned their minds further and accelerated
their separation… I recall listening to proud narratives of double-crossing
colleagues behind their backs only to offer solutions from the front… Sounds
bearable? Now take away all the extrinsic elements and imagine the entirety of it
transpiring strictly within the four walls of your dwelling, with yourself as a
ten-year old anchor-being holding it all together behind the scenes… It doesn’t amuse me to recognize
that such was the surrounding I was born into.
The fact is my reference a few
articles back to only being a step or two ahead of my recent ancestors was just
a superficial analogy, whereas peeling off our outer shells, I’m grateful to be millennia
ahead! Now, at a generational bottleneck, if my better half and I are indeed the
chosen progenitors to take our lineage forward without the past shenanigans,
then so be it. When disagreements are only at the surface while bonding at the
core, no force in the cosmos can tear such a robust family apart!
